Google Nexus 6 release date in Halloween; Device to be renamed as Nexus X

Google Nexus 6 release date will be this Halloween and will be named as Nexus X.

PhoneArena cited unnamed sources from Motorola claiming that the device will be named as Nexus X. This is to avoid copyright and trademark issues with the character in Philip K Dick novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" where the androids were named as Nexus-6. The book was later adapted to the big screen in the cult movie "Blade Runner".

The claim stemmed from an alleged lawsuit from Dick's daughter, which did not materialized. However, Nexus X seemed to be a good choice for the name of a smartphone.

The report added that the upcoming Nexus smartphones will pack a larger screen display with 2K pixel resolution, 2.7GHz Snapdragon 805 chipset, 13-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization and 2.1-megapixel front facing camera.

Motorola is reported to be working on the device. The smartphone was dubbed as "Shamu," which is claimed to focus mainly on the US market as it will be available in most US retailers and carriers. However, Motorola has not confirmed its involvement in the project.

Previous rumors stated that the upcoming Nexus smartphone will sport a 5.9 inch screen display with unknown pixel resolution and a fingerprint sensor. With such massive screen display, there were speculations that the handset will be Google's entry to the phablet category.

The device will reportedly launch in Halloween, which is on October 3. This date still falls on the October release date of the Nexus smartphones. Other reports claimed that Google Nexus 6 release dates could be pushed back to November as the company is rumored to release a slew of devices in the fall, including the Nexus 8 and a Google wearable or smartwatch. However, nothing is official until the tech giant announces its roadmap.
