'Godzilla: Resurgence' news: Toho releases first official trailer

While Gareth Edwards's 2014 "Godzilla" film successfully re-introduced the monster into Hollywood and the Western audience, the original Japanese studio behind the franchise, Toho, is making its own film and has just released the first official trailer for "Godzilla: Resurgence."

The trailer depicts Godzilla in a very similar manner as the previous Toho films: Godzilla still resembles a man in a costume instead of being rendered completely in CGI. There are also several key differences between the Toho Godzilla and the American version, particularly with Godzilla's face and his tail.

As pointed out in a report from Collider, there is also a stark difference in the tone of the trailer compared to how the American movie was marketed, with "Godzilla: Resurgence" focusing more on bombastic music playing in the background, people's reaction to the monster and snippets of Godzilla destroying the city.

The trailer also draws heavily from the 1954 original film instead of the long line of Kaiju films that followed. Instead of Godzilla aiding the humans to fight some other large monster or alien, "Resurgence" focuses entirely on the Japanese people and military as they attempt to stop Godzilla from destroying their homes.

As stated in a report from Deadline, "Godzilla: Resurgence" is Toho's response to the Hollywood version of their popular franchise and will be the first "Godzilla" film to be released from the studio since 2004's "Godzilla: Final Wars." Given that "Final Wars" served as an ending to the franchise, it is likely that this new film will serve as a reboot.

"Gozilla: Resurgence" will be released in Japan on July 29 but there is no word yet of an international release. Fans of the franchise may have to wait for Legendary Pictures and Edwards to return for their sequel to the 2014 American version, "Godzilla 2," which will be released in 2018 and then tie into "King Kong vs Godzilla" in 2020.

If you look at the Church of England’s communications all that it ever seems to highlight is the good works that Christians do to improve the temporal well-being of their neighbours. It is right to highlight these things, but they are not the primary reason for the Church’s existence.
