Since the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) Conference in 2016, Sony has been hyping up the latest installment to their exclusive "God of War" video game series. The series' main playable character, Kratos, will still be returning to the game but this time "God of War" will heavily focus on Norse Mythology instead of Greek.
On Sept. 28, Sony Interactive Entertainment released an all-new trailer for the upcoming game featuring the "Fire Troll," one of the upcoming monsters of the game. No gameplay teases are included in the trailer, only focusing on the impressive artwork behind the character as well as some new music created exclusively for the game franchise's new installment.
Another trailer was released by Sony a day before, called the "Lost Pages of Norse Myth: Rise of the Draugr." As the name implies, it gives fans a sneak peek on one of the main enemies Kratos has to face in the new God of War, a zombie-like creature native to the Norse Mythology.
"God of War 3" finished off in 2010 with Kratos finally extracting his revenge against the Gods of Olympus. Now that there are no more gods to kill, the new "God of War" will take Kratos and his son to the icy Norseland of Scandinavia, where the Draugr, Fire Troll, and other enemies await.
Speaking about the transition of the game from Greek to Norse, game director Cory Barlog said: "When I came back to the studio I knew I needed to make a big change to the game. We had exhausted Greek mythology and kind of started to set up Kratos to be able to connect to more myths. We didn't know exactly where we were going to go at the time, but we knew we were going to expand it out."
Since 2005, Barlog has been part of the "God of War" team, but left the company eight months after serving as game director for "God of War 3." He then came back to Santa Monica Studios in 2013, eventually working on the latest franchise of "God of War."
Although no official release date has been set, "God of War" is said to come out exclusively on PlayStation 4 (PS4) in early 2018.
