Shortly after Paul Feig began working on the all-female "Ghostbusters" reboot starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones, there have been rumors that Sony Pictures might be moving ahead with an all-male "Ghostbusters" movie as well. MTV recently got an update on the latter project from screenwriter Drew Pearce.
During the interview, Pearce stated that he has just finished working on the all-male project although he later updated this statement via Twitter where he explained that his "work" isn't a complete script but a "bible" or treatment that Sony Pictures could work into a film.
"I've finished my work on that in the last couple weeks," Pearce told MTV. "Obviously it's top secret, but there's a gigantic bold idea that I came up with, and the Russo brothers — who did 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' and are doing 'Civil War' at the moment — and Ivan Reitman, who did the original movie, are going to take that and run with it."
When asked if actors Chris Pratt and Channing Tatum are involved in the film, Pearce stated that they are the two actors they are thinking about, but whether or not they would actually be cast in the film is, in his words, "very much above my pay grade." The writer did state that Sony Pictures has not made any official decision regarding Pearce's treatment or the casting choices.
Actor Chris Pratt has denied involvement numerous times but if the studios do push forward with the work that Pearce has just submitted, he and Tatum may yet become a part of the "Ghostbusters" cinematic universe.
It's been presumed that the all-female and all-male films would tie into a single cinematic universe. However, according to a statement by producer Ivan Reitman, there is only one new Ghostbusters film fans should consider.
"There is only one new 'Ghostbusters' movie and that is the Paul Feig directed version coming next July, presently filming and going fantastically," stated Reitman, according.to a report by Uproxx. "The rest is just noise."
While the all-male film is still in development limbo, Paul Feig's all-female "Ghostbusters" is scheduled to be released on July 22, 2016.
