'Gears of War 4' update: The Coalition to showcase multiplayer mode next month, reveals details how Epic's original vision influenced title

Fans will finally see "Gears of War 4" in action next month, during PAX East 2016. Game developer The Coalition will hold a panel at the Albatross Theater on April 24 at 10:30 a.m.

The panel is called "Out of the Shadows: Inside Gears of War Multiplayer with The Coalition" and the developer promises to showcase a bit more of the upcoming game's multiplayer and "some special surprises."

Attendees of the event will also get to try the "Gears of War 4" Versus multiplayer, and if they cosplay characters from the "Gears of War" franchise, they get a chance to win cool prizes from The Coalition.

Those who won't be able to attend the event in Boston can still be part of the fun by catching the developer's PAX East 2016 panel via the "Gears of War" Twitch channel.

Before development on "Gears of War" came this close to the finish line, pre-production of the game suffered a behind-the-scenes shakeup and what turned out to be an unsolvable conflict of interest.

The "Gears of War 4" game that fans will see this fall won't look the way it did three years ago, at least not entirely how developer Epic, who created and nurtured the "Gears of War" franchise, originally envisioned it.

For the uninitiated, Microsoft purchased the rights from the developer back in 2013 after the clashing visions (Epic became more inclined to PC-centric games rather than console-based) about "Gears of War 4" could no longer concur. The Coalition got six months worth of Epic's work and started from there.

They chose to go with Epic's idea to set "Gears of War 4" in the future with Marcus Fenix's son as the protagonist. However, The Coalition decided to tweak Epic's concept on the Swarm enemy.

The Coalition head Rod Fergusson, who also happens to be a former producer at Epic, revealed to Game Informer that they "completely changed" this aspect and "developed the game on our own. The name stuck, but none of the monsters stuck."

"Gears of War 4" will be released this fall.
