GameCube controllers can now be used with Switch

The Nintendo Switch Nintendo/Switch

With the 4.00 update, GameCube controllers are now compatible with the Nintendo Switch.

Using the Wii U adapter, any game from the Switch can be played using the GameCube controller. This would be great for Switch players who prefer playing in the docked mode. According to players, games in docked mode are more enjoyable especially with open-world games like "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" or the upcoming "Xenoblade Chronicles 2."

Now that Switch can support the GameCube, Nintendo loyalists are asking if games like "Smash Bros" will also be part of the other games that can be played. Nintendo has yet to release an official statement about the matter.

What players are liking even more is that players do not need to buy the GameCube controllers if they already have ones from the old gaming console. For the new generation of gamers, the GameCube might require a bit of a learning curve, but for gamers hailing from the 2000 era, this secret feature from the update is the best treat.

Gamers say that the Nintendo Switch saved its console status – as it featured games not "really counted" in the gaming world. Using the old GameCube controllers will also save money from buying the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. However, the Switch Pro will offer more and better features than its older brother, GameCube.

However, there is a downside. The only catch is that GameCube does not support USB port connections. This is why players will still need to purchase the $10 adapter from the Wii U. Now that the older controllers can be used again, gamers see this a way for Nintendo to re-start the manufacturing of the said controllers – given they have manufactured the Nintendo SNES consoles in miniature versions.

Along with the compatibility to GameCube, the 4.00 update for the Nintendo Switch can also now support USB headsets.
