'Game of Thrones' season 6 news, plot: Bran Stark to return

Isaac Hempstead Wright as Bran Stark HBO

Season 5 of "Game of Thrones" went by without a single scene showing Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) and his companions Hodor (Kristian Nairn) and Meera (Ellie Kenddrick). That is about to change as Hempstead Wright recently confirmed in a report from the Irish Examiner that they will be back in season 6.

"I can't say a lot but I am back this season, and it's going to get particularly interesting with Bran. He has some interesting visions," the actor said.

In season 4, Bran and his companions were finally able to meet the three-eyed crow but at the cost of Jojen Reed's (Thomas Sangster) life. There, they discovered that the three-eyed crow isn't really a crow but an ancient sorceror who seemingly became one with a weirwood tree and is accompanied by the Children of the Forest.

Three-Eyed Crow in Game of Thrones HBO

Fans of "A Song of Ice and Fire," the book series on which the show is based, will recognize that the three-eyed crow is actually Brynden Bloodrivers, a Targaryen and relative of Maester Aemon of the Night's Watch. He was a sorceror who eventually became a seer.

In a report from Time, showrunner David Benoiff compared Bran's absence in season 5 to Luke Skywalker's training in the "Star Wars" films.

"Like, it would be far less interesting, after 'The Empire Strikes Back' to have an hour-long movie in between 'Empire' and 'Return of the Jedi' where Luke is training. It's so much cooler to cut from end of 'Empire' to beginning of 'Return,' where he's become the Jedi."

Hempstead Wright also confirmed that he has not yet been able to watch "Game of Thrones" season 5 because the schedule conflicted with his exams but he does plan on binge-watching soon. When asked if he knows if Kit Harrington is returning as Jon Snow, the actor stated that he has no knowledge about the matter.

"Game of Thrones" season 6 premieres in spring 2016.
