'Frozen 2' movie news: Sequel to release in spring 2015

 Disney

Walt Disney Animation Studios has made an official announcement that a new short animated film entitled "Frozen Fever" will be bringing back the cast members on the big screen in spring 2015.

As stated in Disney's official blog: "In 'Frozen Fever,' it's Anna's birthday and Elsa and Kristoff are determined to give her the best celebration ever, but Elsa's icy powers may put more than just the party at risk."

Deemed as "Frozen 2," the upcoming sequel will be the first project to reunite directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck with producer Peter Del Vecho and music masterminds Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez—the Oscar-award winning team behind the worldwide success of "Frozen."

The highly anticipated news was revealed during the airing of "The Story of Frozen: Making an Animated Classic" on ABC, Independent has reported.

Despite soaring to the top of the charts and becoming the most successful animated movie in history by raking in over $1.2 billion in global gross sales, the film's producers made it clear that there are no current plans to develop a feature-length big screen sequel.

Nonetheless, fans will still get to see Queen Elsa, Anna, and the rest of the gang from the first movie along with a new original song from the Lopez musical duo who penned the huge hit "Let It Go." The song was performed by Idina Menzel during the film as she voiced the role of Queen Elsa. Demi Lovato also delivered her version of the track at the beginning of the movie's closing credits.

There has been no confirmation, however, if Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, and Josh Gad will reprise their animated roles and lend their voices once again to the "Frozen" sequel.

ABC has already created "Frozen" spin-offs through the live-action fantasy show "Once Upon A Time" and a behind-the scenes show. A sing-a-long "Frozen" DVD will also be released in November. In an attempt to bring the essence of the film to smaller venues, a Broadway play is reportedly in the works in which the main cast is expected to return.
