The "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie is currently in development, with series creator Scott Cawthon supervising the work being done by scriptwriter Tyler Burton Smith and director Gil Kenan. As stated in a report from Parent Herald, the film is still on track to launch by June 2018.

According to the report, the official IMDB page for the film lists the release for June 8, 2018 however the studios have yet to confirm if this premiere date is final. Kenan himself has yet to respond to any of the rumors that the release date may have been adjusted in order to coincide with the launch of "Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location," a spin-off game being developed by Cawthon.

Back in April Kenan posted via Twitter that the film was not being cancelled and was still in the development phase, with the script being worked on. Cawthon himself followed up on this in June when he responded to an inquiry on Steam, stating that the script was being worked on and that the studios were taking the project seriously.

It has been previously reported that some behind-the-scenes photos of the film in production were showcased before, indicating that real animatronics mixed with some CGI was going to be used in order to give the film an authentic feel and aesthetic, with the practical effects and puppets being done by the Jim Henson's Creature Shop.

Fans speculate that the movie might either be a re-telling of the original game or may finally tell the story of the "Bite of '87," an event that has constantly been teased about in the main games but never fully shown. Others speculate that the movie might just tell its own story separate from the games but could still be considered as a canon entry.

"Five Nights at Freddy's" is expected to launch by June 2018.
