'Final Fantasy 7' remake release date news: HD remaster comes to PS4 in 2017

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age for PS4 Square-Enix

Square Enix has officially announced via a brand-new trailer that "Final Fantasy XII" will get an HD remaster for the PS4 titled "Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age." According to a report from Kotaku, the game is confirmed to launch for both Japan and North America in 2017 although a more specific release date has yet to be announced.

The report also confirms that the game will not be based on the original release but the Japan-only "Final Fantasy XII: International Zodiac Job System" iteration of the game, which was also for the PS2. This version saw a revision of the license board mechanic, making it more viable for players to customize each character in the party instead of having them all play the same once the board has been filled up.

"Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age" will feature updated graphics, an auto-save feature as well as quicker load times. Character models and the backgrounds will be updated to be high-definition and the game's score has been re-recorded. Players will have the option of using the original version of the soundtrack as well.

A report from Dual Shockers reveals that players will also have the option to choose between the Japanese and the English voices. The sounds and music have been updated as well to support 7.1 surround sound. There will be a turbo feature to make the game go faster and it has been updated to be less bogged down by bugs and glitches.

This will be the latest HD remaster coming from Square-Enix, as the company previously released a PS4 port of "Final Fantasy X" and "Final Fantasy X-2."

"Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age" tells the story of Princess Ashe, the novice sky pirate Vaan, his mentor Balthier and the disgraced knight Basch as they attempt to stop an evil empire from conquering and potentially destroying the world of Ivalice.
