'Final Fantasy VII Remake' news: Yoshinori Kitase discusses changes and combat

"Final Fantasy VII Remake" is garnering a lot of attention now that "Final Fantasy XV" is getting ready for its Sept. 30 launch. Fans have been waiting for this remake for nearly two decades and now, producer Yoshinori Kitase gives a few important details regarding what changes fans can expect when the game finally does release.

Speaking to Game Informer magazine (via Gematsu), Kitase revealed that fans of the original won't find as many surprises in terms of the story and characters since the remake is building off what was already present in the original game.

This doesn't mean there won't be new elements, though, as Kitase also revealed that some aspects from the "Final Fantasy VII Compilation," which includes the movie "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children" and the prequel game "Crisis Core" may find their way into the remake.

In regards to combat, Kitase stated that the game will retain its RPG roots but will be a lot more action-based. Kitase cited the "Dissidia Final Fantasy" titles as a core example of what the remake would look and feel like but also confirmed that "Final Fantasy VII Remake" won't be as action-centric as those fighting games, keeping in line with its RPG moniker.

"I'm sure there are areas that our fans want to see how we can change, and areas that they don't want changed," he explained when asked about their approach in changing aspects of the game. "Also, while we want to understand their concerns, we also want to get them excited for the story and seeing how it can be revamped and refreshed."

In regards to the controversial decision of splitting the game into multiple episodes, Kitase revealed that each episode will be as big as a full game, comparing the "Final Fantasy VII Remake" episodes to the entire "Final Fantasy XIII" series and that the former will be far more expansive than the latter.
