'Fallout 4' patch 1.4 coming to consoles this week

 Bethesda Softworks

Bethesda Softworks' "Fallout 4" continues to be a massive success as the game prepares to receive not one but three new DLC expansions in the coming months. In preparation for the add-ons, a new patch, patch 1.4, is launching before the end of the week for both the Xbox One and PS4. The announcement was made via Twitter.

As stated in a report from IGN, patch 1.4 will address several bugs and glitches and will introduce a bevy of new features such as new signs and new options for metal and wood doors. But the biggest feature from patch 1.4 is that it will prepare the game for upcoming add-ons.

The add-on support will be needed as it is a requirement for the consoles and PC to support DLC expansions. After all, the first DLC, "Automatron," will be launching this month and will be followed by the "Wasteland Workshop" in April and the story-driven "Far Harbor" in May.

Patch 1.4 will also allow the consoles to support user-created mods. PC mod support will launch in between the first two official DLC expansions, and mod support for the Xbox One will come a month after. Mod support for the PS4 will come a month after the Xbox One has received it, placing it around the same time "Far Harbor" launches.

The patch will also pave the way for the upcoming overhaul to the game's "Survival Mode."

It is important to note that patch 1.4 has already been released for the PC version of "Fallout 4" and players are advised to get the patch as soon as possible not only for its add-on support and new features but also because the patch does address numerous bugs in the game.

User-generated mods often extend the shelf life of a game. This has been seen with the PC version of "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" and with both "Fallout 3" and "Fallout New Vegas." Adding this to the console versions will not only extend the lifespan of "Fallout 4" but also grant players a bevy of new features that may never come from the official developers.
