The action role-playing game (RPG) "Elex" from video game developer Piranha Bytes is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on Oct. 17.

Set after a meteor crashes into the planet Magalan, "Elex" is a game about the survivors of the tragedy and how they plan to rebuild. Following the meteor explosion, they discover a powerful source of energy called Elex, and while some use it to try and rebuild, others use it to try and further their own agenda. The game will be about the choices players make in this dystopian open-world RPG.

In the world of "Elex," four factions are at war with one another, and the player, being an ex-Alb who is no longer under the influence of Elex, get to choose which one to join.

According to the official website for the game, the factions are divided into The Berserkers in Edan, The Albs in Xacor, The Outlaws in Tavar, and The Clerics in Ingadon. Each of the factions have different views on the meteor that crashed into earth and on the strange substance it brought to their lands. The difference in ideology has led to clashes and fights between the different factions.

The Berserkers focus on transmuting Elex into mana to revive the flora and fauna in the once dead wastelands. Technology is of little importance to them.

The Albs in Xacor consume Elex to rid themselves of emotions in order to make clear, logical decisions. They believe in sacrificing the weak to expand their kingdom and save the world.

The Outlaws in Tavar disagree with both the Albs and the Berserkes and care little about what to use the Elex for. They believe in freedom, and that people must struggle and overcome adversity to succeed.

The Clerics in Ingadon believe that consuming Elex is a sin and use it to power their machines instead. Technology is of importance to them and they put their faith in their creations and weapons.

In one of its articles, Polygon mentioned that "Elex" would be a game about moral choices. The player will be able to shape the world in their own way by the actions they take.
