Game company Square Enix has officially announced on their website that they are working on a mobile port of "Dragon Quest VII" for both iOS and Android platforms. According to a report from SiliconEra, the company will showcase the game at this year's Tokyo Game Show which will be held from Sept. 17 to 20.
Along with the announcement comes three snapshots of the game in action. The screenshots show that it will be played in portrait mode, and they also showcase what the combat screen will look like.
The game appears to be a direct port of the 3DS remake which was released in Japan in 2013 instead of the 2000 original released on the PlayStation One. This means there will be updated combat mechanics, visible enemy encounters instead of random encounters, and a new 3D engine.
Square Enix has yet to announce if the mobile port will make any significant changes from the 3DS version such as the inclusion of a new dungeon or a new ending to the main campaign.
However, despite the likelihood of this mobile port getting released outside of Japan, Square Enix has not yet made any confirmation if the 3DS version of the game will get an English translation. The reboot was released in Japan two years ago, but is still under evaluation to determine whether adapting it for the foreign market would be worth the cost.
"Dragon Quest VII" isn't the only mobile game that Square Enix announced. Their Tokyo Game Show lineup also includes: "Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius," "Mobius Final Fantasy," "Final Fantasy Record Keeper," "Final Fantasy Grandmasters," "Kingdom Hearts Unchained Chi," "Heavenstrike Rivals," "Alice Orders," and "Rampage Land Rankers."
The iOS and Android port of "Dragon Quest VII" has no official release window at the time of the announcement, although it is expected to be released before the end of 2015. No price has been listed either but it is likely that the game will carry the $20 price tag of "Dragon Quest VIII."
