'Dragon Ball Super' spoilers: episode 47 sees 'Black Goku' and 'Future Trunks' kick off brand-new story arc

Future Trunks as seen in the original Dragon Ball Z series Toei Animation

"Dragon Ball Super" episode 47 will start a brand-new story arc in the series, and according to a report from Attack of the Fanboy, the series will be bringing back Future Trunks to deal with a brand-new enemy. According to the report, the villain may be an alternate version of Goku known as "Black Goku" or "Evil Goku."

The report states that the information came from "Dragon Ball Super" insider Gojiitaaf via Facebook, who posted a preview revealing the title of the episode and the basic synopsis.

The information was later confirmed when the latest cover of Shonen Jump Magazine showcased Future Trunks and the evil Goku, who looks like the real Goku but with black clothing. It is noted by Attack of the Fanboy that this evil Goku is also wearing something akin to a Potara ring.

It is also notable that the magazine cover depicts Future Trunks with an adult version of Mai. This indicates that this might not be the same Future Trunks coming from the Cell Saga given that the timeline has now changed. This Future Trunks is speculated to have come from the current timeline, where he and Mai develop a romantic relationship.

Game N Guide also speculates that this evil Goku might not even come from the Planet Vegeta and that he may not be related to either Goku or Raditz. Instead, it is speculated he may be a Saiyan from the Planet Earth of Universe 6, which was destroyed.

However, in the most recent episodes Beerus wished the planet back to existence, indicating this Black Goku may have originated there. Just like the Universe 7 Goku, this Black Goku may have come from the Saiyan planet but did not lose his memory upon reaching Earth and fulfilled his duty to destroy and conquer the world.

"Dragon Ball Super" episode 47 will air on June 12.
