"Doctor Who" season 8 may have been over, but it doesn't mean that the Doctor and Clara won't be seen this Christmas. The series' Christmas special 2014 titled "Last Christmas" is set and ready to go. The evidence? The new batch of photos BBC just released.
The set of new photos outlined by The Independent is surely a great teaser for all "Doctor Who" fans out there. The images show Peter Capaldi as the Time Lord wearing a festive costume with Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald.
In the other photos, Nick Frost is seen in a Santa costume together with helper elves played by Dan Starkey and Nathan McMullen. Michael Troughton is also seen in the images along with some appearances by Natalie Gumede, Faya Marsay and Maureen Beattie.
Capaldi has been very vocal about how he enjoys his role as the doctor. Now, he shares to Digital Spy that "Last Christmas" is "one of the scariest ones ... but one of the happiest."
Capaldi also shared that in this episode, "[The Doctor] has to arrive and save [Clara] from what Santa's going to bring into her life. The Doctor's slightly competitive with other semi-mythical characters!"
"Last Christmas" will be about the Doctor and Clara "trapped on an Arctic base under attack from monster-like creatures as they call on Father Christmas for help," wrote The Independent. It will be very interesting to see how Frost as Santa Claus will help rescue the two.
Meanwhile, there are rumors saying that this will be the last episode Coleman will play as Clara. The title of the episode "Last Christmas" is very suggestive, but if the rumors aren't true, then it could just actually just be a reference to Wham!'s song.
Well, whether Coleman will stay for another season to air next year or not, the "Doctor Who" Christmas special is a definite must-watch. It airs on BBC One on Dec. 25 at 6:15 p.m. In the meantime, here's the official promo for "Last Christmas."
