'Diablo IV' rumored to be in development

Diablo III Activision Blizzard

YouTube user Rhykker initially posted a video on March 3 hinting that Activision Blizzard may be developing "Diablo IV," based on the rumor that the company is posting job listings for a senior concept artist, senior character artist and a lighting artist, reports Game Ranx.

This was taken initially as pure speculation, but not long after, Blizzard's official website has uploaded the job listing as well, specifically for the lighting artist position. However, the post is listed for an unannounced project but it does state that it will be related to the "Diablo" franchise.

"The ideal candidate shares our sensibilities and looks forward to the challenge of illuminating the dark medieval worlds of Diablo," reads the official job post, proving that the new project is indeed going to be set in the same universe, although it does not specifiy if this is for a "Diablo III" DLC or for an entirely new entry, possibly "Diablo IV."

However, fans point out that an expansion to "Diablo III" is highly unlikely to be the unannounced project given that the story of "Diablo III" ended with the main game and was only meagerly expanded in the "Reaper of Souls" DLC.

It has also been several years since the launch of "Diablo III" and a new DLC expansion may not be as successful as it would have been when the game was new and popular.

Instead, an entirely new story for "Diablo IV" is more likely to happen, although Blizzard is known for taking their time when it comes to releasing a new game, meaning the aforementioned game may not come out in the next few years unless development has been going on in secret.
