'Deadpool' movie news: Ryan Reynolds hoping for Wolverine cameo by Hugh Jackman

Hugh Jackman as Wolverine 20th Century Fox

Actor Hugh Jackman stated via a Twitter post last March that "Wolverine 3" would be his last film as Logan a.k.a. the Wolverine, but that doesn't mean he won't appear in films prior to the release of "Wolverine 3," which is scheduled for 2017. Ryan Reynolds, lead star in the upcoming film "Deadpool," mentioned that Wolverine might make a cameo appearance in the film.

Reynolds stated in an interview with News.com.au that it is possible Deadpool and Wolverine would clash one more time. The only issue at this point would be their shooting schedules.

"God I hope so, that would be really nice," Reynolds explained. "I dunno, we'll see. It seems like he's open to it, but it's gonna be more of a scheduling issue than anything else."

At this point, "Deadpool" is already in production and primary shooting has begun. Production for "X-Men: Apocalypse" has also begun in Montreal, Canada and it is expected that Jackman will be there to shoot a few cameo scenes. If the character of Wolverine is to be in both films, then the production teams will need to work out a window for Jackman's schedule so he can fly to both sets and finish his respective scenes in time.

The two actors shared some screen time in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" but the film was a critical bomb, forcing Fox to eventually reboot the "Deadpool" franchise while still keeping Reynolds as the titular character. The film was in development hell for several years but was picked up in 2011 after Tim Miller was brought in to direct the project.

Many fans considered the portrayal of Deadpool in "Origins" as a disservice to the character, particularly for stitching his mouth when he is supposed to be known as the "Merc with a Mouth."

Wolverine is also expected to make a cameo appearance in the "Gambit" spin-off film, starring Channing Tatum, but at this point, it persists only as a rumor with no valid confirmations from Jackman or 20th Century Fox.

"Deadpool" will hit theaters on Feb. 12, 2016 while "X-Men: Apocalypse" will be released on May 27, 2016.
