'Captain Marvel' news: plot will be set in the '90s

Marvel's titular female powerhouse, Captain Marvel, is set to make her debut in the silver screen by Mar. 8, 2019. The story will be set in the '90s with a younger looking Nick Fury, who has a set of good eyes.

"Captain Marvel" will be the first movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to feature a female as the title character. Just like Black Panther having his origins story melded in "Captain America: Civil War," Captain Marvel will be making her debut in the still untitled "Avengers 4" movie. Whether the superhero's origins will be in the said movie is yet be revealed.

Brie Larson will be playing the role of air force pilot Carol Danvers. As revealed in the San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) 2017 back in July, Danvers will be endowed with the powers of a fallen Kree warrior and will be tasked to become a guardian of both the Earth and that galaxy. Marvel Studios has listed Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck for the directorial helm. Geneva Robertson-Dworet will be writing the script together with Meg LeFauve.

In an official statement from Marvel, the production knew that Carol Danvers was a comic book character with a handful of nuances, making her story powerful albeit unknown to non-comic book fans. This will be a challenge for the production staff since the movie will be set after the events of the Infinity War. In the comics, a lot of superheroes will die at the hands of Thanos. Although MCU fans have their theories as to which hero will die in the 2018 movie, what is set is that a new batch of heroes will be carrying the stories of the cinematic universe.

The production of "Captain Marvel" will start by Jan. 8, 2018. This would be well in time since both "Black Panther" and "Ant-Man and The Wasp" will have cleared their productions.
