It was widely speculated that the first trailer for "Captain America: Civil War" would release when the next James Bond film, "Spectre," opens in theaters. However, a scoop from Collider now points out that the trailer will instead launch in theaters accompanying none other than "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

Captain America: Civil War trailer tease Twitter/RussoBrothers

The report points to a Twitter post presumably belonging to the Russo brothers, directors of "Civil War" and the film before it, "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." The Twitter post showcases what appears to be a film poster alongside what is speculated to be stars on the American flag, a symbol often associated with Captain America.

After further research, it was discovered that the poster on the left is for "Star Wars: A New Hope." Putting two and two together, it would only make sense that this is a teaser hinting that the trailer for "Captain America: Civil War" will launch when "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens in theaters.

The report explains that it would be a brilliant marketing move to expose their biggest 2016 film with their biggest 2015 film. The number of people going to watch "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" during its opening weekend and in the weeks to follow is expected to break records and this means that millions of people will be fully exposed to the "Captain America: Civil War" trailer.

It is important to note that up to this date, it has not been confirmed if the Twitter account does belong to the Russo brothers. However, several real accounts of connected crew and cast - including the new Spider-Man actor Tom Holland - are following the account, hinting that it may be the real deal and that this tease isn't just to create buzz.

"Captain America: Civil War" will open in theaters on May 6, 2016 while "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" hits theaters this Dec. 18.
