Canon 5D Mark IV release date: Camera testing in the wild, rumored to arrive August

Canon 5D Mk III, the current model available Canon

The Canon 5D Mark IV is expected to be released anytime soon. According to a report from Canon Rumors, the camera is already being tested out in the real world by select photographers chosen specifically by the company. The report continues to state that the camera might be launching to the public this coming August.

According to the report, the camera is being tested to tweak some of its features but the mere fact that it is already in this phase means the hardware has been finalized. All that is left at this point is to continue tweaking the software and the new features that the camera might be introducing.

It is further stated that at this point it is confirmed that the camera will be able to shoot videos at 1080p resolution at a consistent 120 frames per second (fps). There is also the guarantee that the camera can even film at 4K resolution although it is undetermined if it can do this at a consistent 60 fps or if it is trimmed down for the meantime at 30 fps.

Rumors have also suggested that the camera may be equipped with Cfast 2.0 card slots that will allow it to easily handle the data speed required in recording 4K videos. However, it is undetermined at this point if the features even work for the Canon 5D Mark IV or if they are being further enhanced to include even newer technology.

Screen grabs from a 4K video are likely to be implemented, however, as the Canon 1Dx Mark II already features it and it does it so well. With the 5D Mark IV being a more powerful camera, it is more than likely to feature this capability, especially if it can record 4K videos at 60 fps.

Canon has yet to make an official announcement regarding the specs and release date of the 5D Mark IV.
