More than a decade after the 2001 British romantic comedy film "Bridget Jones's Diary" first came out on the big screen, rumors about a new sequel are starting to make the rounds online.

The third installment in the "Bridget Jones" films, said to be titled "Bridget Jones's Baby," will focus on the lead character's journey in becoming a mother. The movie will reportedly to see the return of original stars like Renee Zellweger as the titular character, with Colin Firth returning as Bridget's husband Mark Darcy. However, Hugh Grant previously announced that he will not return as Bridget's ultimate crush and boss Daniel Cleaver.

Aside from the lead actors, original movie director Sharon Maguire is also returning to the franchise to helm the new film.

If the first two Bridget Jones's film were based on Helen Fielding's novels, namely "Bridget Jones's Diary" and "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason," then the upcoming film is likely to be based on her latest book titled "Mad About the Boy."

The upcoming sequel was first announced back in 2009, and Universal Studios greenlit the film with Working Title production back in 2011. But the production of the movie had been delayed for quite a long time already. In an interview with the Chicago Sun Times back in April 2013, Firth acknowledged that the third "Bridget Jones" movie is taking a long time before it comes out in theaters.

"Unfortunately, it might be a bit of a long wait," Firth said. "I wouldn't say that it's completely dead in the water, but the way it's going you might be seeing Bridget Jones's granddaughter's story being told by the time we get there."

However, recently, the cameras seemed to have started rolling as rumors began to circulate about the alleged involvement of British pop singer Ed Sheeran in the film. According to reports, the production staff of the film followed Sheeran to his concert in Dublin back in July.

However, neither Sheeran nor Universal Studios has released any confirmation about his alleged participation in the upcoming "Bridget Jones" film.
