'The Big Bang Theory' season 9 spoilers: Premiere episode to answer Amy and Sheldon's issues

Amy and Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory CBS

Season 8 of "The Big Bang Theory" ended with two major cliffhangers: with Leonard and Penny's wedding in jeopardy; and with Sheldon and Amy breaking up right before he could reveal he had an engagement ring and actually planned to propose to her. According to a report, these issues will be addressed in the season 9 premiere.

The Hollywood Reporter gives some details about the San Diego Comic-Con panel for "The Big Bang Theory" where showrunner Steve Molaro explained that the premiere episode will tackle the many questions fans have about Sheldon's ring and his plans to propose to Amy.

There is the issue about the origin of the ring. Fans speculate that Sheldon either bought the ring or that it might be a family heirloom passed down from his mother. When did Sheldon plan to propose is another issue commonly brought up about the show.

Even the actors don't know all the answers. Mayim Bialik, who plays Amy, stated in the report from the Los Angeles Times that there is a big mystery surrounding that engagement ring and Sheldon's intentions with it.

"We don't really know what the story is with that ring," she explained. "And I think that's something I had to remember as an actor. We don't know what he was planning to do with it. We don't know if it was something he got from his mother. We don't know what the process was by which he acquired that and what he would think to do with it."

All of these issues will be answered in the very first episode, but given the nature of the show, this doesn't mean that everything will be fine and dandy when the day is done. It is very likely that Amy and Sheldon will be friends again but it might take the whole season for them to get intimate once more and maybe even longer before Sheldon's proposal becomes a reality.

"The Big Bang Theory" season 9 premieres this Sept. 21.
