"Beyond Good and Evil" was a massive success when it first launched back in 2003, but despite this, no sequel has ever been released. Ubisoft did release a teaser as far back as 2008, and nothing else followed. Finally breaking the silence, Ubisoft lead designer Michael Ancel announced that "Beyond Good and Evil 2" is in development.

On Facebook, it was confirmed that Ubisoft Montpellier is working with Ancel to complete the sequel. Unfortunately, he did not give further details regarding how far along the game is in development or when it may possibly launch.

"If you've been waiting for news about ["Beyond Good and Evil"] well, here you go," reads the post alongside brand new concept art. "We are delighted to confirm that Michel Ancel is currently working with the Ubisoft Montpellier Studio on a new 'Beyond Good & Evil' game," he added.

The original title was a mix of traditional third-person action and platforming, alongside a heavy emphasis on stealth. According to Polygon, the sequel will likely follow the same format and remain a stealth title instead of attempting to brand out into different gaming genres.

However, the concept art does not showcase Jade, the protagonist from the first game. It is widely speculated that she may not be the main playable character in the sequel and that she may not even be encountered until much later into the campaign. It is said that she might be an NPC that the player must rescue from prison.

The announcement also does not reveal which platform the game is likely going to launch on. The original title launched on the PlayStation 2 and later on the PC before it was ported to the Xbox and Gamecube. In 2011 the game was given a re-release for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.

No official release date has been announced as of writing, although if the game is still in pre-production, it may still be several years before the game is finalized and released.
