'Batman' movie news: Warner Bros., Ben Affleck working on new trilogy after 'Batman vs Superman'

Ben Affleck as Batman Warner Bros. Pictures

Following an early screening of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" to the film's crew as well as the executives of Warner Bros. Pictures, Ben Affleck has reportedly been approached to write, star, and direct not just one but three solo Batman films for the DC Extended Universe.

According to a report from Den of Geek, the executives have referred to Affleck as the "definitive Batman" after seeing his performance in "Batman v Superman." The report also cites that Warner Bros. is now looking to make the DCEU films revolve around Affleck's Caped Crusader, putting the spotlight on Batman instead of Henry Cavill's Superman.

Prior to the screening, the actor was already set to work on a solo Batman film which is scheduled to hit theaters some time in 2018. Production for this solo movie doesn't commence anytime soon as the actor is still attached to portray Bruce Wayne aka Batman for "Justice League" parts 1 and 2 while also shooting cameo scenes for other DCEU films.

Affleck's other two projects, "The Accountant" and "Live by Night," have already been pushed back by several months with the former now getting an October 2016 release and the latter now receiving an unspecified 2017 release date.

However, as pointed out by /Film, the delays were made prior to the early screening of "Batman v Superman," hinting that the reason for the delay may be attributed to Affleck's shooting schedule for the two "Justice League" films instead of his now busier schedule for the solo "Batman" flicks.

After all, "The Accountant" has already been shot and is currently in post-production while "Live by Night" is scheduled to begin production this November, long before Affleck will be needed for the first solo "Batman" film. No release dates for the other two "Batman" films have been announced.

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" opens in theaters on March 25, 2016.
