After being hailed as the newest popular girl in school, Jenna (Ashley Rickards) will realize in the fourth episode of "Awkward" season 5 that popularity comes at a price.
In the episode titled "Now You See Me, Now I Don't," Jenna will be shocked after learning how she is described in her high school yearbook. The official synopsis for the "Awkward" episode posted on Hollywood Hills reads:
The senior yearbook will be released. Jenna is going to be depressed when she sees her superlative, but will wonder what Matty will write in her yearbook."
But based on Jenna's reaction, it seems like she actually fits the superlative. After all, being described as the "Most Depressing" might actually have a grain of truth in it, with Jenna being shown wallowing in despair in the trailer for the episode.
But the yearbook superlative is not the only thing that will depress Jenna in the upcoming episode. Based on the trailer, her mother Lacey (Nikki DeLoach) is going to be busy preparing for the upcoming mother-daughter senior banquet. Jenna will also be wondering what her former boyfriend Matty (Beau Mirchoff) is going to write in her yearbook.
In the previous episode, Jenna and Matty had a reversal of roles when she became one of the most popular students in Palos Hills High School. She inadvertently caused a blackout when she accidentally poured cleaning agent while cleaning up after a seniors' prank. Because of the blackout, the school administrators had no choice but to cancel classes for that day, much to the delight of the entire studentry.
But while she reveled in her newfound fame, Matty suddenly felt invisible when his schoolmates suddenly ignored him. He was one of the most popular guys in school, which is why being unpopular had a huge impact on his self-esteem. Will this also affect his friendship with Jenna?
"Awkward" season 5 episode 4 will air on MTV on Monday, Sept. 21.
