"Avatar 2" and its follow-up films are still in the middle of development but it has been confirmed in the past that actress Sigourney Weaver will return despite the fact her character, Dr. Grace Augustine, died in the first film. According to Ecumenical News, it is possible she won't be reprising the character and is instead playing the villain.
Previous rumors suggested that Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) are now the leaders of the tribe of Na'vi and it is possible that through their influence Dr. Grace will be reborn as a reincarnated Na'vi despite the earlier attempt to revive her failed.
If this proves untrue then Sigourney Weaver is more likely to portray a brand new character such as the film's main villain. This could mean she will be playing a Na'vi who is against Jake's leadership or wants to combat the humans attempting to mine on the Na'vi planet.
Fans should be cautious regarding the information as director James Cameron and the rest of the team behind the "Avatar" films have yet to comment regarding the rumors. These rumors should be taken with a grain of salt. MNR Daily points out that Cameron has been silent regarding the film's development and it is undetermined which of the rumors are true.
"Avatar 2" has been in development for some time and as stated in a previous report the movie has been delayed due to James Cameron waiting for the necessary technology to be developed. It is noted that the first film, which launched in 2009, had been in development since 1994 and Cameron had to take the initiative to develop new 3D cameras and motion capture technology to make the film he wanted.
"Avatar 2" will open in theaters in 2018 and will be followed by Avatar 3" in 2020, "Avatar 4" in 2022 and "Avatar 5" in 2024.
