Asus VivoWatch 2 release date: What to expect in 2016

 Twitter

Taiwanese tech company Asus had recently announced its $149 VivoWatch, which is the company's latest wearable that would be able to provide up to 10 days of battery life. The firm plans on exceeding the functionality of its smartwatch with the release of another VivoWatch, which is expected to be announced in 2016. One of the primary reasons why the company's VivoWatch is able to provide far more battery life compared to other wearables is because the device is not running Google's Android Wear platform, which is notorious for its battery hungry attribute.

Instead, VivoWatch is running Asus' homegrown Kood OS, along with microcontrollers and customized components that have allowed the company to incorporate a black-and-white screen that provides more than a week's battery life. While details of the VivoWatch successor have not been detailed, Asus will most likely be targeting the fitness crowd, allowing them to monitor their heartbeat and other vitals while they are exercising. Additionally, Asus could incorporate additional features in the product, such as a calling option, which is a feature expected to be present in the successor of the company's ZenWatch.

By adding more functions to the upcoming wearable, it can automatically be assumed that the next VivoWatch will exceed the $149 price tag of the original wearable, but will expand its functionality to work both as a call making machine and fitness tracker. Currently, VivoWatch is able to sync to both Android and iOS mobile products (provided they are running updated operating system versions) and Asus will be looking to maintain that level of flexibility, with the possibility of branching out to Windows 10.

While Asus has stated that the new wearable will be announced in 2016, consumers should wait for at least a 12 month gap before the company gears up to launch the successor. More details will be provided once the wearable reaches closer to its official announcement date.
