'Arrow' season 5 spoilers: Team dynamics revealed; Colton Haynes not confirmed to return

Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen aka Green Arrow The CW

"Arrow" season 5 will premiere this coming October but it will be bringing in a new set of dynamics with the characters given that during the season 4 finale, Team Arrow had disbanded. In an interview with IGN, executive producers Wendy Mericle and Marc Guggenheim tease at where the team stands when season 5 begins.

According to the EPs, Oliver Queen aka Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) will be aiming to be more optimistic despite the fact that new enemies and challenges continue to try and drag him back into the darkness. He will also be struggling to balance his personal life, his life as a hero and his new responsibilities as Mayor of Star City.

Thea Queen (Willa Holland) decided to quit the vigilante life in the season 4 finale and in season 5 will be helping her brother but not as Oliver's Chief of Staff. Although she is young and not exactly qualified it is noted she is the daughter of Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) and Moira Queen (Susanna Thompson), giving her the innate ability to handle politics well.

Diggle (David Ramsey) will be back in the army but it has been explained that he is not gone and will have a special story integrated into season 5. Felicity Smoak (Emily Brett Rickards) will still be Oliver's main ally but now as a friend and not as his romantic interest. It is noted that the two will not have any emotional baggage making things awkward between them.

Curtis Holt (Echo Kellum) is also confirmed to don a costume in season 5 as he becomes Mr. Terrific. It is explained that while it might sound ridiculous on paper, especially for a gritty comic book show like "Arrow," the actor makes it believable without having to deepen his voice or do something unauthentic.

In a separate report from TVLine it is also confirmed that actor Colton Haynes has not yet been locked in to reprise his role as Roy Harper. According to the report, the actor is still busy with his schedule for "Scream Queens" season 2 although if the opportunity opens he may be coming back at least for a short appearance on "Arrow" season 5.

"Arrow" season 5 premieres on Oct. 5.
