Apple Watch 2 release date rumors: Device speculated to launch in September

The current models of the Apple Watch lineup Apple

During this year's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) Apple did not unveil any new piece of hardware but focused solely on their software lineup such as Watch OS3.0 and iOS 10. However, according to a report from Digitimes, it is likely that the new Watch 2 will launch this coming September.

According to the report, Apple's manufacturers are stepping up with the production of parts and the assembly of the new Apple Watch 2. This is an indication that the new device is going to launch sometime soon and the only major event Apple still has lined up is their September event, which is also when they launch a new iPhone and iPad series.

It is speculated that this means the Apple Watch 2 will be coming out in late September with the WatchOS 3.0 already built into it, and there may already be some form of instant integration between the Watch 2 and the iPhone 7 or iPad Pro 2, allowing the device to quickly synchronize with each other.

Gotta Be Mobile also points out that the original Apple Watch has seen its price drop by $50 and there has been a resurgence of different colored bands, luxury bands and software updates. All of these reportedly hint at the launch of the new Apple Watch 2.

The report also states that the Watch 2 is likely to be released with a $299 price tag, but this is only if the original Apple Watch is phased out. There is a chance that the Watch 2 may start out with a $349 price tag and that there may be other variants such as a supposed Apple Watch 2 Sport and Apple Watch Edition 2.

Regarding its newer features, WatchOS 3.0 will allow the Watch 2 to handle notifications, emails, SMS and calls, making it far less reliant on the iPhone than the previous model. It is also expected to come with a lot more fitness and health apps to compete with its competitors which are focusing almost entirely on the fitness market.
