Apple Watch 2 release date rumors: will the gadget be showcased at WWDC on June 13?

 Apple

The original Apple Watch launched in April 2015 and it was speculated that the follow-up, the Apple Watch 2, would be released in April this year. To date, the Apple Watch 2 has yet to be revealed, but according to a report from Tech Radar, it may finally make an appearance at Apple's Worldwide Developers' Conference (WWDC) this June 13.

According to Gizmodo, Apple is going to unveil several new devices and software during this year's WWDC such as the iOS 10, an update to the tvOS and an update for the Apple Watch OS. It is also rumored that Apple may finally launch a public SDK to allow developers to create third-party adjustments and features for Apple's Siri.

However, Tech Radar pointed out that the Apple Watch 2 may be presented or at least teased. The original device is already more than a year old which indicates a brand new iteration is coming out very soon. If the device does not make an appearance at WWDC it is likely it will launch in September alongside other Apple products.

If the Apple Watch 2 does not release during WWDC it is speculated that Apple will instead market the Apple Watch OS 2, an upgraded version of the original OS seen on the first Apple Watch.

Should the Apple Watch 2 launch in September it will be releasing alongside a new iPhone and iPad devices. Apple has yet to officially unveil the iPhone 7 but this is rumored to be launching in September and is one of the potential devices that will be paired with the Apple Watch 2.

The Apple Watch 2 is rumored to be bundled with the Apple Watch OS 2, will have a thinner metal body and is speculated to feature a front-facing camera that will work in synchronization with Apple Face Time. It is rumored that the straps from the original Apple Watch will also be compatible with the Apple Watch 2.
