Apple: 4-inch display budget iPhone in the works?

After Apple finally enlarged the screen of the iPhone, reports have sprung up that the company is bringing back the handset sporting a 4-inch screen display. An iPhone 6 model with smaller screen is said to be bound for release in 2015.

Taiwanese media company, Electronic Times, cited sources from Apple's supply chain claiming that the tech giant is cooking up a miniature and mid-range version of the iPhone 6. The handset will reportedly replace the company's budget smartphone – the iPhone 5C. Although Apple landed a miss with the iPhone 5C, the company will again try to penetrate the mid-range category by releasing a new budget smartphone.

The report added that the product is meant for women with smaller hands as well as old-time iPhone users who find the new massive screen of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus quite hard to hold and uncomfortable to use. The alleged device can be used with one hand only. Thus, Apple will provide its loyal customers with the option to switch back to a smaller phone. Furthermore, this iPhone "mini" will be perfect for first time iPhone users.

To add fuel to the fire, Apple is reported to hold two iPhone launches each year in order to keep up with the stiff competition in the smartphone market. Rumors claim that Apple will hold launching events in spring and in autumn just like some of its rivals.

The spring press event will allegedly introduce the new line of mid-range smartphones, while the company will unveil the full-fledged flagship smartphone in fall. This further leads to whispers that Apple will introduce the miniature iPhone 6 with lower specs and features early next year. However, nothing is set in stone yet as Apple has not announced anything official as of the moment.

Apple, it is said, is hoping that this new variant of the iPhone 6 will gain the same attention as the two larger smartphones. The 4.7-inch iPhone 6 topped the charts after selling 10 million units in three days. The iPhone 6 Plus, on the other hand, is a scene-stealer in the phablet category and is currently outselling other smartphone-tablet hybrids in the market. It is in a neck and neck competition with the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge.
