Android L Wi-Fi bug fix: How to resolve issue

Android 5.0 Lollipop update

The Android 5.0 Lollipop rollout has not been smooth from the start. But while it is common for any new OS to have a few bugs and issues, owners of Nexus devices still can't help but be frustrated with the Wi-Fi issue that has persisted since the new operating system was released last week.

A lot of Nexus users, especially those who own Nexus 5, 7, 9, and 10 devices, reported that they are unable to connect to Wi-Fi networks. Some users claimed that the device saves passwords but fails to connect. Surprisingly, Google has not released any update yet that will fix the issue. Still, the tech giant is expected to address this problem soon.

Amidst the absence of a bug fix, some users managed to find solutions to the problem. There are three ways on how Nexus device owners can resolve the Wi-Fi issues, at least until Google's Android releases a bug fix.

Solution 1: Reconnect to Wi-Fi

One of the things that Nexus owners can do is to try reconnecting their devices to the home network. Users can try the following tips to fix the issue.

  • Toggling the Wi-Fi on and off. In Nexus devices, users can pull down the drop down menu on the upper right hand corner, tap the Wi-Fi symbol to turn it off, then turn the device on again.
  • Restarting the device.
  • Turning on and off the Flight Mode.
  • Temporarily turning off mobile data.

Solution 2: Change Wi-Fi channel

Some users reported that changing the Wi-Fi channel allows them to connect to their Wi-Fi network. This involves changing the channel through the router and entering the IP address and password. This depends on the settings of the router.

Solution 3: Revert back to Android KitKat OS

If all else fails, Nexus users are advised to just go back to using the 4.4.4 version of the previous Android KitKat OS. They can head to Google's Factory Images and choose the version of the OS.
