With the latest Amazon Fire HD 7 made available to the public at a starting price of less than $200, customers have looked forward to knowing its features and whether a less expensive tablet compared to other devices can be of great benefit.

The Fire HD 7 has been constantly compared with the Fire HD 6 because of their similar features.

A change in design, particularly with more angles, has been most evident, along with the availability of the tablet in five different colors. The thin plastic back panel, however, has been criticized in numerous reviews as it gives the Fire HD 7's design a "cheap toy-like feel."

Nonetheless, the new 7-inch tablet comes with a faster processor than its predecessor and is likely to give off a better graphics performance. The Fire HD 7 also features Amazon's newest Sangria OS based on Android, the Fire OS 4 Sangria.

With the latest OS, users can look forward to improvements in battery saving functions. It will also enable individual profiles and content sharing across Fire devices.

The Fire HD 7, however, lacks Mayday, the customer service feature found on the HDX tablets, as well as any Google apps or the Google Play store. Users can still purchase a new Kindle book, game, or app and can make the most of the Prime Instant Video service that comes with more titles and the option of downloading selected films and TV shows to be watched offline.

Amazon's Fire HD 7 is also being offered for children with its Kids Edition that comes with a protective case. Basically, the Fire HD 7 will include an additional FreeTime Unlimited subscription, a service that features child-friendly apps, videos and games.

Interestingly, with an interface that kids can easily understand and navigate, FreeTime acknowledges the importance of parental control and enables parents to set a time limit for their children to use their tablets. These extras will come at a higher price, with a price tag of $189 for the 8 GB variant of the 7-inch Fire HD 7 model.
