'Alien: Covenant' spoilers: Images tease new xenomorph and Weyland-Yutani

Ridley Scott is already hard at work on the sequel to "Prometheus," titled "Alien: Covenant." While very little is known about the film except that it will only see Michael Fassbender returning, leaving Noomi Rapace out of the picture, the official Twitter account for the film has posted several teaser images hinting at what's to come.

The first teaser image showcases a new design for the iconic xenomorph alien. The alien design is reminiscent of what has been seen in "Alien" and "Aliens" but with a slightly different head and face structure. It is undetermined if this is an early version of the xenomorph seen in the aforementioned films or just a different breed.

It is pointed out that the xenomorph design was initially made for "Prometheus" but was eventually cut out of the final film. However, "Prometheus" did feature a prototype xenomorph at the very end of the movie.

This prototype was smaller and had a sharper face compared to the typical xenomorph. This new teaser image may be the next evolution of the creature before finally becoming the iconic version seen in the first two "Alien" films.

While a new xenomorph alien is expected to be in the film, given its title, the second teaser image marks a big spoiler in regards to the film's plot. The second image is that of the Weyland-Yutani logo. Also known as "The Company," Weyland-Yutani has been seen as the real antagonists of the franchise, even more so than the xenomorphs.

As stated by the Hollywood Reporter, the logo bears iconography based on the Biblical "Ark of the Covenant," which is often a symbol of power and knowledge. The logo does not resemble the one used in "Aliens" but it does bear a resemblance to the earlier logo used in "Alien."

It is important to note that the Company was only referred to as "The Weyland Corporation" in "Prometheus" and it is likely that in the span of time between "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant" the company has merged with the Yutani Corporation.

"Alien: Covenant" premieres in theaters on Aug. 4, 2017.
