2016 Chevrolet Camaro news: Coupe version specs released

2016 Chevrolet Camaro Chevrolet

The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is slated for release this year but only the coupe version will be available. The convertible variant will be rolled out in early 2016 although no specific release window has yet been announced.

According to the official 2016 Camaro website, the vehicle will come in four main trims: the 1LT, 2LT, 1SS and 2SS. The LT trims house a turbocharged 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine although there is still the option for consumers to upgrade to the more powerful V-6 and V-8 engines.

Motor Authority reports that the 4-cylinder will be able to power up to 275 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque while the V-6 will be capable of revving up to 335 horsepower and 284 lb.-ft. of torque. The V-8 will be capable of going up to 455 horsepower and 455 lb.-ft. of torque.

All of them, including the lowest trim, will come with Driver Mode Selector, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an 8-direction driver's seat and 6-direction for the passenger seat, a reversing camera, a well placed and fairly large display screen featuring the Chevrolet MyLink interface, and OnStar 4G LTE connectivity that offers Wi-Fi hotspot.

Brembo brakes are also optional as well as Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 run-flat tires for the 1SS trim. Manual transmission cars can also include the limited-slip differential as well as active rev matching. The 2SS trim adds all of the additional bonuses including electronic gadgets for the tech savvy.

According to a report from CarandDriver, the vehicle uses GM's Alpha architecture for its frame which makes the vehicle slightly smaller than previous Camaros, slightly lighter, and also slightly faster due to improved aerodynamics. The report states that Chevrolet claims these adjustments make the car 200 pounds lighter than previous Camaro builds.

Consumers can avail of the Camaro configurator on the official website to customize the kind of 2016 Camaro that they want to purchase and which dealer they can avail their vehicle from.
