Xiaomi Mi 5 rumors: Phone to feature a curved glass back similar to Galaxy Note 5

Xiaomi Mi 4, the current lineup of Mi smart phones Xiaomi

Chinese phone manufacturer Xiaomi has yet to officially unveil the Xiaomi Mi 5 but it is already rumored that the device will be released this coming Sept. 24. Nothing specific about the phone has been disclosed, but according to a new report from Mobile-Dad (translated via Phone Arena), a leaked photo shows the phone may have a curved glass back akin to the Samsung Galaxy Note 5.

The leaked photo also showcases a distinct metal frame and two loudspeaker cutouts located at the bottom. Also on the bottom is a data port, although the image is too blurry for one to properly distinguish the type. According to GSMDome, this is most likely a USB Type-C port.

According to the report from Phone Arena, there are speculations that Xiaomi is waiting for the release of the Snapdragon 820 processor before it launches the device, but this is highly unlikely as the processor may not even be made available until the end of the year or early 2016.

Instead, the report states that the Mi 5 will most likely utilize the current Snapdragon 810 processor, 3 GB RAM, a 16 MP rear camera, 5 MP or 8 MP front camera, and either a 5.2-inch or 5.7-inch Quad HD display. However, because the already released Xiaomi Mi Note Pro features 4 GB RAM, it is possible that the Mi 5 will make use of a 4 GB RAM as well.

There are also speculations that the device will sport a fingerprint scanner although no clear image or announcement from Xiaomi officially confirms this rumor. If true, then this may make it function faster than the Apple Touch ID system, but this is still open to debate until the device is actually released.

At this point, Xiaomi has neither confirmed nor denied any of the speculations and the company has not made any official comment regarding the leaked images. Therefore, all reports until the phone's release should still be treated as rumors and not confirmed information.
