Xiaomi Mi 4C announcement poster Xiaomi via MIUI forum

A month after the launch of its Redmi Note 2, Xiaomi has revealed on its forum that they will release a new mid-range phone called the Xiami Mi 4C. An event will be held this Sept. 22 to officially unveil the phone and its new features, and it is reportedly going to be on store shelves by Oct. 3, according to Digital Trends

The phone will sport a Snapdragon 808 processor, a big upgrade from the Snapdragon 615 used in the flagship Xiaomi Mi 4 device. It will also come in two variants: one with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB memory while the other will be a faster 3 GB RAM and 32 GB of storage.

The Mi 4C will be running on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and will use the latest MIUI 7.0 as its front end, and will feature LTE and Wi-Fi capabilities. It will also have a 13  MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera. Posters on the forum also said that it will have a bigger battery and a lighter and more compact design.

Most notable amongst its upgrades is the support for USB Type-C, a feature even the latest iPhones do not utilize, although the latest Mac devices have started supporting them.  The USB Type-C allows users to plug in their chargers from any side or direction, which makes it more versatile than standard USB chargers.

However, the post from Xiaomi does not reveal if the device will be released outside of China and instead advises fans to wait for the official unveiling on Sept. 22 for further details. Xiaomi does remind fans that the Xiaomi Mi 4i, which was only available in India, is now being launched in other countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

According to Digital Trends, pre-ordering will become available on Sept. 22 once the main unveiling event is over. The phone will then hit store shelves on Oct. 3.
