Over the past weekend, several big Xbox 360 games were made available for the Xbox One crowd through the system's backwards compatibility library. However, the games have since been taken down, and according to a Reddit post from Xbox's Director of Programming Larry Hryb aka Major Nelson, this was because the games were made available by accident.
"Microsoft tests all Xbox 360 games with our emulator to ensure a quality experience across a breadth of titles," he explained in the official post. "Due to an error, some of the games currently in test were accidentally made available. We have since removed access to those games, and apologize for any confusion this may have caused. We will have more information on upcoming releases soon."
Hryb's statements indicate that the games leaked may become available in the foreseeable future but it is likely that not all of the games will be offered this month. As pointed out in a report from GamesRadar, some of the other titles might launch for the backwards compatibility library when they can be paired with similar other Xbox 360 titles.
Some of the most notable games that were leaked over the weekend include "Red Dead Redemption," the Xbox 360 re-release of "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night," Halo Wars," "Left 4 Dead 2," "Tekken Tag Tournament 2" and "Alan Wake's American Nightmare."
The report does point out that it is likely all of the titles will become available one day, just not all at the same time. Xbox One backwards compatibility doesn't update every month but instead the library grows as new games are tested and deemed compatible enough without any major errors or bugs plaguing their performance.
Several fans who have been able to download the games while they were still available have stated that "Red Dead Redemption" runs smoothly without any major glitches or compatibility errors to note, so it is possible that it may be ready for launch soon.
