Woolly mitre for bishop

The mayor of Peterborough, George Simons, with Sophie Antonelli from the Peterborough Green Back Yard community garden, and Bishop John

The Bishop of Brixworth has received an unexpected gift in the form of a woollen mitre and scarf.

Bishop John Holbrook was "yarn bombed" with the crocheted gift from a local group of artists.

Yarn bombing is a form of knitted graffiti in which woollen adornments are made and then attached to public objects, such as statues or trees.

Made in Peterborough, the knitting group behind the bishop's mitre and scarf, has around 25 regular members who knit and embroider among other crafts.

The group has run pop-up shops in the town selling locally made goods, and contributed to the establishment of six craft businesses.

Bishop Holbrook, who has promised to wear the items in future, was joined in his "yarn bombing" experience by the Mayor of Peterborough, George Simons, and Sophie Antonelli from the Peterborough Green Back Yard community garden, who also received woollen gifts.
