Microsoft took the veil off the Consumer Preview of the new Windows OS last Jan. 21, but while the desktop operating system is not ready for public consumption just yet, reports say that smartphones powered by the Windows 10 mobile OS are slated to be introduced at the Mobile World Congress in March.

New Lumia smartphones running Windows 10 will reportedly make their debut at the trade show. Microsoft is said to announce two models, one of which is the high end successor of the Lumia 1320 – the Lumia 1330. The other smartphone will be targeting the entry level market, presumed to be the Lumia 930 smartphone or a cheaper version of the Lumia 830 with PureView camera with lower grade specs and features. According to Customs Today, director of product marketing for Microsoft Mobile Devices Ifi Majid said that new devices will most likely be released this summer.

The forthcoming Windows 10 mobile OS will feature new changes and improvements that will support new hardware parts to be included in the Windows phones such as Snapdragon 810 and 805 chipsets, higher RAM and quad HD resolution.

The new mobile OS is expected to arrive not only on Lumia smartphones but on other Windows-based smartphones as well. There could be an onslaught of new smartphones sporting the new operating system since its main feature is its unified interface, meaning it will connect smartphones, notebooks and desktops seamlessly. The feature is similar to Apple's iOS and MacOS AirDrop but way better. According to Microsoft, apps will be unified and what works on desktops will also work on smartphones, which will be beneficial to Windows users since a large number of desktops and notebooks run with Windows OS.
