'Wayward Pines' season 1 episode 8 spoilers: Ethan hunts down bomber, Abbies could invade the town

Wayward Pines Fox

The end is near for season 1 of "Wayward Pines" and the previous episode ended with Ben (Charlie Tahan) and Amy (Sarah Jeffery) seriously hurt from a bomb that was intended to take down a portion of the wall surrounding Wayward Pines. Episode 8 now sees Ethan (Matt Dillon) hunting down the bomber to prevent the Abbies from coming in.

According to the official synopsis for the episode titled "The Friendliest Place on Earth," Ethan goes on a rampage to stop Kate (Carla Gugino) and the rest of her allies from bombing the walls that protect the town from the Aberrations that would invade and kill every living human being inside the town.

More specifically, the synopsis states he is hunting down the person responsible for the explosion that harmed Amy and Ben. This driver would be Wayward Pines resident Ted Laufer (Andrew Jenkins). Ethan already saw Ted in the surveillance footage when Harold handed him what is presumed to be the bomb used for the truck.

Harold (Reed Diamond) decides to opt out of the rebellion instead of supporting his wife Kate and her intention on bringing down the walls. Nurse Pam (Melissa Leo) starts an investigation of her own as she interrogates the surveillance engineers to see if any of them are lying about their reports or are secretly supporting Kate's rebellion.

If the rebellion succeeds, then the Abbies will make their way inside. According to a report from Movie News Guide, this could occur before the end of the season, prompting for season 2 to resolve any cliffhangers that the Abbie invasion would bring.

According to a report from VCPost, the season so far has generated enough viewers and critical ratings for it to get renewed for a second season. The show is currently under consideration but no official news for renewal have been announced by Fox or executive producer M. Night Shyamalan.

"Wayward Pines" season 1 episode 8, "The Friendliest Place on Earth," airs on July 9.
