'Vampire Diaries' season 6 preview: How will Elena, Damon, Caroline, Stefan and Bonnie spend Christmas?

The bells are jingling and lights are twinkling, but in Mystic Falls and in other places where the characters of "The Vampire Diaries" are, Christmas is nothing but cold. Everyone is facing their own holiday dilemma and it is preventing them from spending the holidays the way they want to.

The official photos from the season 6 mid-season finale have been released. One of those featured in the photos is Bonnie Bennett, who remains stuck on the Other Side. The photo shows Bonnie together with Elena and Caroline, but sadly, this is only a flashback memory.

The mid-season finale is titled "Christmas Through Your Eyes," and the synopsis reads: "The Bennett witch will be spending the holiday season alone and stuck in 1994 so she tries to replicate her favorite traditions and remember the happy times with her two friends. One promo photo still showed Bonnie preparing for a snowball fight with Elena while another one showed the two best friends stringing up the popcorn."

Another photo still from the episode shows Sheriff Forbes surprising Caroline on Christmas. The synopsis did say that Caroline is sad about not being able to go back to the anti-magic Mystic Falls. So instead, her mother surprises her and they spend Christmas together.

Also in the synopsis, Jo has gone missing. Alaric, Damon and Elena try to find her, while Tyler comes up with a risky plan and approaches Luke and Liv about it. Further, Matt wants to take down Enzo and seeks help from Jeremy, while Stefan has bad news for Caroline.

But of course, there is still Damon's quest to rescue Bonnie from the Other Side. Damon has taken it upon himself to rescue Bonnie because it was the witch who sacrificed herself so that he could come out. With the help of Elena and their friends, they are set to do whatever it takes to get Bonnie back safely.

"The Vampire Diaries" episode "Christmas Through Your Eyes" will air this Dec. 11. The show will then return on Jan. 22, 2015 for the episode "Woke Up With a Monster," a Paul Wesley-directed episode.
