'Vampire Diaries' season 7 spoilers: New dynamics between Damon and Bonnie?

The Vampire Diaries - Damon and Bonnie CW

"The Vampire Diaries" just said good-bye to actress Nina Dobrev and her character Elena during the season 6 finale. Dobrev left the show to focus on other projects although fans speculate that she departed due to tensions with co-star Ian Somerhalder. Without her in season 7, a new report states that the dynamics will focus on Bonnie and Damon.

Bonnie (Kat Graham) is the reason Elena is gone from the series. During the season 6 finale, it was revealed that while Bonnie is alive, Elena would be asleep. Elena was taken to her coffin so she could sleep for roughly sixty years or at least until Bonnie dies, allowing Elena to rise again.

Of course, this trade-off doesn't sit well with Damon (Somerhalder) and a report from the IBTimes indicates that the relationship between Bonnie and Damon will be a big part of season 7's tone and plot directions. Fans have to ask if the two can continue being friends or enemies as the tension between them continues to rise.

"I'm hoping for both," Graham explained in an interview with E! Online. "I'm hoping that we see both sides of their relationship and how it can affect them both because it's obviously going to screw with Bonnie and him, but especially Bonnie."

In response to this, Somerhalder stated in an interview with TVLine that his character will revert to the way he was during seasons 1 and 2 of the "The Vampire Diaries," saying, "Now we get to go back to really great storytelling that was the Season 1 and 2 of the show that we all loved. I want that Damon back."

According to the IBTimes report, the two will remain friends but they will bump against each other throughout the season. They'll have to get along as season 7 will see the return of Lily, Enzo, and Lily's vampire coven so there will be trouble brewing sooner than fans expect.
