UCB raises awareness of global housing shortage

United Christian Broadcasters (UCB) has teamed up with Habitat for Humanity to help build homes with poor communities around the world.

‘The House that UCB built’ project launches on 1 April and will see the two organisations collaborate throughout the year to raise awareness of the 1.6 billion people in the world struggling as a result of a lack of housing.

UCB will help to increase support Habitat for Humanity's work in 80 countries by featuring the charity's projects on its radio and television channels.

The 'House that UCB built' culminates in October with a visit by a team from UCB to Nepal with the international charity to assist in building a home in just five days.

The UCB team will work alongside local and international volunteers, as well as members of the community to complete the project.

Luke Weston, Programme Director for UCB UK said, “We’re really excited to be working with Habitat for Humanity on this project – our team can’t wait to get stuck in too, to provide some real practical help for families who are struggling.”

Melody McNally, Direct Marketing Manager at Habitat for Humanity said, “We believe that poverty housing and homelessness are a matter that should be on Christians’ conscience here in the UK, and this joint campaign is a brilliant way for people to find out more and respond to the great need that exists around the world.

"I really encourage churchgoers throughout the country to listen out and to join us in our mission to create a world where everyone has a decent place to live.”
