Twitter's Audio Card to let users embed, play music; more streaming partners to join in

Twitter has now upped its game when it comes to putting music on the social media site.  Without having to move away, users can listen to a song embedded on a tweet.

With Twitter's mobile version, a new feature known as the Audio Card will now enable people to embed music and other audio in their tweets. It will also allow users to click on a shared song to play instantly right on the app. As the track plays, it can be moved to the bottom of the screen if one prefers to carry on with browsing while listening to the audio.

Twitter launched the Audio Card in partnership with SoundCloud, an audio platform that allows artists and other sound creators to upload and share their music. According to Twitter's blog post, they have released the official list of partners for which the Audio Cards will work, all of which can be found through SoundCloud.

Twitter also noted that they are still seeking for more partners to get involved and sign up. The Audio Card is expected to work well with devices that run on iOS and Android.

Good news is that the songs will not be automatically played as it would be unfavorable for users to go on Twitter and be flooded with songs that they have not chosen to play themselves.

As the Audio Card is currently a pilot feature, Twitter is expected to expand its range of streaming partners aside from SoundCloud and Apple. With iTunes getting involved, Apple has made it easier for users to purchase the song or album that they have previewed.

A couple of tweets from famous musicians have already put iTunes in the headlines when it comes to Audio Cards. Foo Fighters made use of an Audio Card to tweet the release of their new track "Something From Nothing" from their upcoming album "Sonic Highways."

Other audio services that Twitter will add have remained unconfirmed, although users are looking forward to major music streamers and online stores to be included.
