The cast lineup for the second season of "True Detective" is almost complete, except for a female lead that will bring balance to the testosterone in the series. A female actress will reportedly join the cast who will play the role of a "no nonsense" Californian sheriff named Ani Bezzerides who has a dark past and issues like gambling and alcoholism.

According to reports, top actresses Elisabeth Moss and Rachel McAdams were shortlisted and are competing for the role. With two great actresses vying for the female lead post, it is hard to make a decision. Until now, there is no word from show creator Nic Pizzolatto who is close to signing, although rumors claim that Rachel McAdams is leading.

Due to the absence of a female lead, the filming of "True Detective" season 2 has reportedly been delayed. At this rate, it is presumed that the series will come back on air later. Filming should have started in September in order to meet the timeline.  The second season of the hit TV series is set to be back in summer of 2015. However, this will be hard to achieve now.

HBO announced that Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, and Taylor Kitsch bagged the three male lead roles in the series. Farrell and Vaughn's roles were confirmed last month. Most recently, Taylor Kitsch signed a deal to appear in the series. It was also reported that Kitsch turned down a lot of promising projects and roles in order to prepare himself for his role in "True Detective."

It was also revealed that Abigail Spencer, Kelly Reilly, Michael Irby and Leven Rambin will join the cast. Irby will play the role of Elvis, the partner of the female lead.  Spencer will be a survivor of a sexual assault, and Rambin will portray a beautiful woman with a checkered past. Lastly, Reilly will play a role described as "the self-possessed Morgan."
