The filming of the second season of "True Detective" will start in September, according to HBO's head of programming Mike Lombardo.

At the recent Guardian International Television Festival in Edinburgh, he also spilled the beans that the upcoming season will have its own story, cast, setting, and period apart from the previous season.

"We're going to start shooting in September for it to air next summer. [It has] different characters, a different setting. It's set in California, all of California. There are three cops. One of the characters is female. I think that's probably all I'm allowed to say. We'll probably be announcing casting soon," Hollywood Reporter cited Lombardo.

He also revealed that the writing was better compared to last season as he has received copies of some parts of the scripts and outlines for the two consecutive episodes of the show. Lastly, he said that three or four directors will go on board next season. However, specific details have been kept under wraps.

Meanwhile, there were reports that the will come back on air in January. HBO has not announced the exact premiere date of the "True Detective" season 2 yet.

According to reports, Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch will be playing the two leads in the second season of "True Detective," although the actors have not confirmed yet if they will take the roles or not. Actress Elisabeth Moss was also currently in talks to play the female lead in the series. On the other hand, Vince Vaughn is also in discussion with the production team in playing either the fourth leading role or the major villain next season.
