'Transformers 5: The Last Knight' spoilers: awesome new official image released

Paramount Pictures has released the first official image for "Transformers: The Last Knight" via Twitter, and just like previous films, the image focuses on showcasing Optimus Prime, voiced by Peter Cullen, wielding a large sword as he faces an unidentified enemy.

As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, it appears as if the enemies Optimus is facing are dragons or at least robots designed in the shape as dragons. While the titular Transformers are generally designed as humanoids disguising themselves as vehicles like cars or jet planes, the franchise has shown that some of the characters and creatures do step out of this restriction.

Some of the most notable examples are the Dinobots shown in "Transformers: Age of Extinction," which are essentially designed to look like dinosaurs instead of humanoids. Fans also point out that the enemy Optimus is facing appears to be some kind of robotic hydra.

As previously reported, Onslaught has been confirmed as the movie's new antagonist although Megatron, now with a brand new design, will be returning as well. It is undetermined whether Onslaught will be following Megatron's orders similar to the source materials or if the two villains will be operating independently or even against each other.

Cinema Blend reports that the film is rumored to focus on implementing the Arthurian legend by claiming the wizard Merlin was in fact a Transformer. The main characters, which include a mix of characters from the original trilogy and the fourth film, will race against the villains to get a magical item that this Merlin may have left behind.

At the same time, Optimus Prime will be in outer space dealing with the Creators and the ruins of Cybertron. This plotpoint was teased at the end of "Transformers: Age of Extinction" although it is undetermined if this story arc will playout throughout the film or just in the first arc.

"Transformers The Last Knight" will premiere in theaters in summer 2017.
