'Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege' release date, gameplay news: New Spectator Cam mode revealed

 Ubisoft

Ubisoft has unveiled a new feature that will be added in the upcoming first-person shooter video game "Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege."

The game developer revealed at this year's Gamescom event that that a Spectator Camera has been installed in the game to give better leverage for those who are planning to engage in competitive gaming. The Spectator Cam mode provides a good vantage point for players to see two different perspectives simultaneously.

"Spectator cam has been an idea that has been kicked around for a long time on the project," Ubisoft Montreal animation director Scott Mitchell shared with IGN. "Really it's just an excellent teaching tool, it's a great way for new players to come in and watch the tactics that are used in different maps and in different scenarios."

Mitchell explained that "Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege" can be a very intense game for those who are just starting out. This is why it would be a good idea for players to observe the game first from various first-person perspectives from different types of operators so they can strategize their next move.

The Spectator Cam also offers a huge amount of leniency to the observing 11th player. They can opt to switch between the perspectives of any player from the opposing teams, and change their viewpoints from any flying or rolling drones operating during the game.

However, the Spectator Cam can only be used by PC players as soon as the game comes out in October, while those who will use consoles to play the game have to wait until next year to be able to get this mode.

Aside from the Spectator Cam, Ubisoft also revealed a new map called Kanal set in Hamburg, Germany.

The PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions of "Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege" will come out on Oct.13.
